Essentially, focusing on the theme of understanding others, Attuning Path presents an unsolvable puzzle that remains out of reach. Both the speaker and the listener can confront mutual incomprehension, fostering confusion and contemplation as part of the communication process. Through a network of tangled pipes, the piece unravels an auditory journey within a labyrinth, where twists and turns occur unpredictably at every corner.

An acoustic communication process that reaches its limits is often at the centre of Jiyun’s works. Be it through communication between species or the simultaneous playing of a musical instrument by several people – Jiyun’s scenarios not only challenge our perception, they also provoke gaps in our understanding of what we hear. Our imagination involuntarily grows into this ambiguous space, giving deceptive form to what we hear. But these distortions are not mistakes. Rather, they seem to make it easier for us to tune into what we perceive and our counterparts. Jiyun raises the question of whether hallucinating is not even a prerequisite for mutual understanding.
