Song of Droplets (2024)
performance / developing project
The project, song of droplets, represents to collective voice of objects which is resonated by water drops. It includes diversity of inherent tone from selected objects and rhythms in creating by speed of water drops. Several water bags hang on a ceiling and transparent tubes are spread over head and tangled up like a spider web. Water from the bags flows through this tubes, and at the end parts of each tubes includes a regulator which is able to control water drops by performer. Dropping water is beating, splattering and eroding objects which is located below. Its action occurs resonating of inherent sound in objects. The aim of performer is locating multiple objects below of water drops coming and variate rhythms by controlling regulators.
This sound-driven performance are designed for listening acoustic sound in a space, and it is able to expand to indicate surroundings, which are often ignored to sense. It is not confined set like two side between stage and audience, but audience are free to walk around objects and stand, and find own listening spot because resonating sound comes from all different directions. It is different way of listening, not waiting the sound comes to you, you are composing room acoustic by your movement.
Idea of collective sound and multitude are derived from understanding soundscape which is the acoustic environment to be perceived. Considering human as just one part of these interwoven ecosystems, my projects aim to discover and represent the meaning of collectivity through sound. I see the relationships between all living and non-living elements as constantly weaving together, forming texture and context.
